Bio

Jennifer Whittemore has helped hundreds of clients with her unique blend of Pilates and muscle-energy techniques. She has taught in a variety of settings including several Manhattan and Brooklyn Pilates studios, corporate sites, and fitness facilities including AOL, Yahoo, The Associated Press, Google, The Hearst Corporation, Columbia University, Movements Afoot, and Clay.

She founded Innerpillar as a way to empower the widest possible client base with body-mind awareness. Her work includes exercises on traditional Pilates equipment, several types of body work techniques, and energy healing to promote whole body wellness.   She encourages independence in her clients and they appreciate the support and inspiration she provides for home practice.

Jennifer understands both fitness and rehabilitation. She was introduced to Pilates in 1990 by Pilates elder, Mary Bowen after herniating a disc in her low back. Pilates provided a source of stability throughout her dance career and continues to provide the foundation for a strong, healthy spine.


Jennifer has helped professional athletes, actors, and dancers to enhance athletic performance and has worked with clients who have special issues including:

Jennifer received her mat and equipment certification from the Kane School of Core Integration under the aegis of Kelly Kane and is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance as a Certified Pilates Trainer (CPT). She is a lifelong learner and has taken many master classes and workshops with the renowned Kane School staff, as well as master teachers such as Madeline Black, Tom Meyers, and Lesley Powell. She received her Reiki master certification from Louisiana Zinn and has maintained a private practice since 2003. She received her yoga certification from Integral Yoga in NYC and continues her training in an Iyengar-based approach at Yogasana Center in Brooklyn. In addition, she is in her second year of a three-year academic intensive in Integrative Manual Therapy.

Jennifer holds a BA in playwriting and performance from Hampshire College and received honors for her MA in Dramatic Literature from the University of Essex in England with a concentration in Playwriting. Prior to InnerPillar, Jennifer was a professional writer, editor, and web producer in the nonprofit and corporate sector.
